Popplet Challenge

It's time for another Digi Challenge.  This time we used Popplet to organise our ideas.  We had to invent something that would help us be sustainable in the future. The Room 17 students all did an AMAZING job but I could only pick 4 to share. Here are inventions from Eric, Zander, Hugh, Josie and Neive.  Can you spot Digi?

Comic Genius!

What great fun we had on Friday reading the comics some Room 17 students did.  Some students drew their own and some used websites like Make Belief Comix. All in all we had a good giggle reading the different stories each comic told.

Congratulations Sophie!

We were very excited yesterday to find out Sophie's 5 sentence challenge was chosen for the Showcase! She was one of nine students from around 200 entries to be picked! As you can see students from all around the world enter the Five Sentence Challenge! Sophie will get a certificate and a special showcase badge.  I wonder if anyone else from Room 17 will get picked?

Teach Me Tuesday Week 6

This week Zander and Yuna were our fabulous teachers! Zander taught us step by step how to draw Big Red from Angry Birds. We all got to give it a go, which was heaps of fun! Then we went off to the hall and Yuna taught us some tap dancing steps. We learnt steps called the shuffle, heel flop and front flop. Yuna even bought spare tap shoes so we could try them out. Another very successful Teach Me Tuesday!

Improving our sentences

This morning Room 17 looked at the next prompt for the Five Sentence Challenge. It is a picture of a busy market place. We then practiced taking a boring short sentence and making it better.  Click here to read the sentence we improved. After we did this one as a class, we tried making our own in groups.

Pick of the Bunch Writing

It's been a while since we've shared our pick of the bunch writing. On Wednesday we went for a morning walk around the school to investigate what winter was bringing to the grounds. We found bare branches, frost covered flowers and very cold concrete!! Olivia's writing was voted the best this week.

On a cold, sunny morning Room 17 went for a walk. The poles were frozen like ice. Breath was coming out of my mouth.  The chirping birds were flying around.  The monkey bars were slippery. The grass was smooth.  The grass looked like it had diamonds on it.

Hands-On Homework - Obstacle Courses

Our HOH from Week 4 was to build an indoor obstacle course. You needed to include over and under, in and out and see if your whole family could complete it. It was great seeing all the different times everyone got and your times getting better over the week.

Potting Our Plants

Last week Room 17 and Room 19 planted seeds with Mr Benbow. We could choose between snow peas, baby beets or cress. Hopefully these will start growing soon.

Little Chefs

For homework this week we practiced our cooking skills. Check out Nikita's pizza.  It looks delicious! Olivia made herself some toast. Great cooking skills girls.  Jake takes his cooking one step further. He makes food for the men at his dad's work and they buy it from him. He uses this money to buy things he wants.

Hands on homework

I made cheese on toast for afternoon tea.

Teach Me Tuesday Week 5

According to Hugh, science can be very interesting, hence his decision to teach us some science by showing us how to make quick sand! It was ooey, gooey and very blue!

El Presidentes Week 5 T2

Cool Flash Comments

Can we compost at UHPS?

Today Room 17 went on a mission to help a school work out how to reduce their waste.  After we'd finished, we listed the systems they put in place to help keep the school rubbish free. We realised UHPS did lots of things already like having scrap paper trays, recycling bins and rubbish-free lunches. The one thing we noticed we don't do is compost our food scraps! Room 17 want to take on the challenge of setting up a compost system at UHPS. We watched this video to learn more about what we'll need to do. Watch this space, there is a lot to think about.

Teach Me Tuesday Week 4

This week it was time to learn how to play Chinese Checkers, thanks to Levi and then our resident garden queen Sophie showed us how to plant seeds. Fantastic teaching Levi and Sophie!
